Charging Ahead: IONNA Expands Fast Charging Across KC and Beyond
EV Highway Charging in Kansas City Is Expanding
IONNA’s “Rechargeries” celebrate their two year anniversary.
EV highway charging in Kansas City and the surrounding region continues to expand, building on strong local infrastructure while adding new options for regional travel.
That includes recent growth from IONNA, which is bringing high-speed charging to key highway corridors across the Midwest. IONNA just hit a major milestone, celebrating its second anniversary with 100+ charging sites now live nationwide and nearly 1,000 fast-charging bays in operation. That rapid growth is starting to show up in places familiar to Kansas City drivers.
IONNA’s approach is intentionally different. Its “Rechargeries” are designed for real-world travel, located along major highway corridors and increasingly paired with everyday destinations like Casey’s. Instead of planning your trip around charging, charging becomes part of the stop you were going to make anyway.
That vision is already materializing locally with new sites in:
- Parkville (Casey’s at MO-9)
- Kearney (Casey’s at W. 6th St.)
- Blue Springs (NE Adams Dairy Pkwy and NE Coronado Dr)
These sites expand access across the metro, and connect travels to a growing network along I-70. Additional stations extending south into Oklahoma are helping round out regional travel. View the map of Ionna’s charging network here.
Plug-In KC saw this firsthand during last summer’s EV road trip, where drivers used IONNA’s Abilene, Kansas location as part of a real-world test. What once required careful planning is quickly becoming something closer to routine.
And that’s really what IONNA’s two-year milestone represents.
This isn’t just more infrastructure—it’s a shift in how EV charging works. Faster buildout, better locations, and a stronger focus on the driver experience are turning EV road trips into something predictable, comfortable, and increasingly effortless. For drivers in Kansas City, that means more places to plug in, and more confidence in where the road can take you.
