Plug-In KC Year-End Review: 2024
This report provides a comprehensive overview of Plug-In KC’s activities and accomplishments throughout the year. From our kick-off event in March to our involvement in various community events and educational initiatives, we have been actively promoting the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in the Kansas City area.
Key Events and Activities
- Kick-Off Event: Plug-In KC officially launched on March 4, 2024.
- KC Auto Show: Participated in the KC Auto Show March 14-17, showcasing the latest EV models and technologies.
- Videos created throughout the year: Created and published a total of 7 videos were on the Plug-In KC YouTube page.
- EV 101 Webinar: Hosted our first webinar on June 27 entitled “EVs 101” as an overview about what it’s like to own an EV. Over 20 individuals participated in the webinar while being broadcast, and over 30 have viewed the replay.
- Prairie Village 4th of July Festival: Engaged with the community at the Prairie Village 4th of July Festival. Plug-in KC spoke to numerous individuals during the day, and answered questions. We also had over 20 individuals sign up for our newsletter.
- Connecting JoCo Project: Seven local governments or agencies began the $1.4 million investment (funding secured by PIKC) in new EV charging infrastructure on public assets across the county.
- Economic Development Impact of EVs: Hosted an in-person event August 15 at Black & Veatch exploring the positive economic impact of EVs in the region, with over 80 people in attendance.
- Put a Charge in Your Business Webinar: Held a webinar September 26 for business owners and facility managers about the benefits of adding EV chargers to their buildings.
- EV Tailgate at Olathe Ford: Organized an EV tailgate at Olathe Ford on October 5 called “An EV Powered Tailgate”. Olathe Ford offered test drives, answered questions and provided a food truck. Plug-in KC answered questions and had a fun raffle giveaway.
- Future Forward Panel: Moderated a panel discussion “Charging Up Kansas – Supporting Electric Vehicles in the Sunflower State” at the conference in Manhattan November 18.
- Heavy-Duty EVs Event: Convened a panel discussion and vehicle and equipment demonstration on November 19 at Burns & McDonnell, focused on the growing importance of heavy-duty EVs, with over 60 people in attendance.
- Meetings with key stakeholders: Met with key stakeholders, including elected officials, business leaders and industry experts throughout the year to tout EVs and their importance in the KC region.
- Website Launch and Usage: Encouraged engagement with the new website including event registration, rebate information and the EV Finder Tool.
- Marketing/Ads: Activated paid Google ads for pluginkc.org in the month of November and December that received nearly 24,000 impressions.
- Partnership with Evergy: Collaborated with area utility to incorporate real-time data and trend research to inform program content, target marketing and to extend reach to the public.
