Get to Know a Charging Station Host: North Kansas City, MO
Located in North Kansas City, Macken Park is one of the region’s most popular parks. Visitors enjoy a wide range of recreational activities such as ball fields, tennis and racquetball courts, a walking trail, playgrounds and more. The park also hosts three electric vehicle charging stations that can power six up to electric vehicles at a time. City of North Kansas City Administrator Eric Berlin shared how a citizen request led to the city’s EV commitment.
How did your commitment to electric vehicle charging begin and develop?
“We had a request from a resident and decided to look into it. The arrangement that Evergy offered was attractive, and it was a beneficial thing to offer to our residents and visitors to our park. It took us a while to get through the political process—which involved both our Parks Board and City Council—but we went from first contact to completion of the charging stations in a little less than a year.”
Tell us about the partnership with the Clean Charge Network.
“With Evergy’s program, other than providing space for the chargers, we were able to offer this amenity without any outlay from the City. They made it relatively simple for us to provide EV charging to those who might desire it.”
What do you want to say to EV drivers?
“We appreciate your contribution to a cleaner environment, and encourage you to fuel up the next time you are visiting Macken Park!”
